In October of this year, a unique & historic event took place in Malaysia – the '1st Annual WSL Ving Tsun Kuen Hok Worldwide Fellowship Gathering 2012' – an event very proudly organised by 'WSL Ving Tsun Combat Science (Malaysia) that was conducted at our Seremban training centre across the weekend of the 13th & 14th. It was attended by well over 100 people who came from more than 10 countries around the world, joining together to celebrate the wonderful legacy of the late, great Sifu Wong Shun Leung.

Commencing with a fantastic Malaysian-style dinner at one of Kuala Lumpur's very finest dining spots, Top Hat Restaurant, near the iconic Petronas Towers, attended by overseas guests, devotees of 'WSLVT' and friends of the school from Malaysia & around the globe, held on the Friday night before the event, the entire weekend became an opportunity for old friendships to be renewed, new friendships formed, stories to be exchanged and knowledge to be shared by practitioners of the system whose ages ranged from the early teens to over 70 years of age.

Special Guest of Honour for the event was Sifu John Wong Hong Chung, eldest son of the late Wong Shun Leung, who proudly represented his father across the weekend. As one of the Special Guest Presenters, he was joined by seven other direct students of Wong Sifu who brought with them a wealth of knowledge and experiences that went back as far as the 1960s. Sifu Rolf Clausnitzer, the first foreign student of Wong Sifu, as well as the first author of an English-language book on Wing Chun (Ving Tsun), was the "elder statesman" of the group, which also included Sifu Li Hang Cheong, Sifu John Smith, Sifu Jerry Yeung, Sifu Enzo Verratti, Sifu Mark Wong and host of the event, Sifu David Peterson.

By the time the event was over on the Sunday evening, with everyone enjoying a farewell meal at Restoran Fatty below the Seremban venue, no one really wanted to leave and the conversations stretched on for hours. In fact, quite a few were known to have gone on to other venues to continue their conversations or do some more training, and quite a few of the overseas visitors made a point of staying around for up to two weeks afterwards in order to get the most out of their stay in Malaysia, training at both the Kuala Lumpur and Seremban schools during their visit. The local students loved having their foreign "cousins" join them in class, and the exchange between them was open, friendly and very constructive, with much learnt and taken away on both sides.

All in all, The Gathering, as it has affectionately become known as, was a resounding success on many, many levels, not the least of which was the bringing together of a diverse group of devotees of the WSLVT system who now know that they have a wonderful extended family with whom they can communicate, share and train with on virtually every continent. It also strengthened the resolve of all involved to preserve and protect the incredible legacy that Wong Sifu left to us, and to see that those who do not truly represent the system are identified and exposed. To that end, The Gathering also marked the official establishment of the 'WSL Students' Association' which is dedicated to the preservation, development and dissemination of the true 'WSL Ving Tsun Kuen Hok' as Wong Sifu intended it to be taught.
